Ok I am simply not someone who has ever gotten into USURPER. I have seen them live a few times and I have always read their praises in metal zines. I have never owned a USURPER cd and never had any intentions to do so, but I knew who they were. You know, it’s kind of like that porn at the Chinese gas station you always see, and you’re like, “Yeah, porn,” but you never pick it up. USURPER--just never picked it up. But when I got this promo and I got it from Earache, I went, “Man, USURPER is on Earache now? Wow!” See, I didn’t dislike them or anything. It was just like that porn. I like porn, but I’m usually too busy picking up barbeque pork rinds and egg rolls and cigarettes (that’s my diet), to pick up the porn. The same for USURPER, and now I have some to listen to. Basically, everything I have heard was right on. It’s old school, no-flash metal. It’s straight to the point and has zero shock or flash value. It’s just down your throat metal--very heavy and very pounding metal. I like the music a lot. It’s just like getting hammered in the nuts with a Mike Tyson boxing glove over and over. It’s mid-paced and continual. It’s like SLAYER on half speed. However, it does not qualify as my all-time favorite--boring as an insurance meeting on four hits of acid in Ken Burns style, long ass detail, sludge, doom crap. It’s not that it’s just very mid-paced and hardcore pounding, however, but what I don’t like is the lyrical content-it’s just silly. And those of you who know me know song titles like "Metal Lust" and "Invincible Overlords" make me want to rip out the eyeballs of everyone within 400 miles and do it with a chainsaw! So, music-good; lyrics-um...............................(be nice Wes. Be kind. Put the chainsaw down...............................)-not good. I’m going to go buy that porn now.
