Review:
Okay, so I get this huge envelope in the mail, twice as big as any of the other envelopes that I normally receive with music to review in them, and on the return address it says TINNITUS. I’m freakin’ psyched, because I’ve been in contact with this band for several years now but never actually gotten to see them live. We’ve almost had some shows together but for some reason, they never quite got done for whatever reason. You can imagine how excited I am to get their package right? So, my greedy fingers rip the thing open and I risk a peek inside and my bloodshot eyes are greeted by a huge manila envelope stuffed full of goodies, including a shrink wrapped album, a kick-ass sticker(now on my metal-van), a bio/promo sheet, and a Militia Promotions hard display card, all very professional. I shred the wrapper on the album, which by the way features a good looking girl on the front with a bullwhip wrapped around the throat of a guy with duct tape on his mouth, and the word whore written across his bare chest, and the back of the thing has the same hot chick, only in this photo she’s got her whip wrapped around the throat of the three members of TINNITUS, Tim, Angie, and Crumpy, each with their own duct tape on their mouths. Okay, so it sets me back only a second but then I’m inside, and the coveted disk is in my hand. Here’s what I found contained on the professionally printed CD of Tinnitus:
This is a creative trio for sure. The album itself checks in at an awesome 1 hour and 3 minutes featuring 12 tracks. They have decided to put the longest song first, and immediately you get a hint of punk flavor with very distorted metal. I mean, this band loves HEAVY distortion. In fact, it was so distorted at first, I thought I had a blown speaker. After throwing a serious temper tantrum, I discovered that this was not the case, and continued on with my listen. I found Tinnitus to be hard, and soft, brutal and bestial, punk and metal, completely cross genre absolute distortion madness. Their music has some good timing changes, the drummer kicks ass, and I mean, seriously kicks ass, displaying some great change-ups and fills, and the vocals jump wildly from singing to growling, and back over to moaning screams. With so much distortion you can’t really hear the bass that much, but every once in a while you get to hear some nice clean bass licks punching through, usually in an intro, a bridge, or a change-up.
If I had any complaints at all, I would have to say that a better recording would certainly do nothing but help them along. Aside from that, Tinnitus is a killer band, with lots of motivation and energy, and I hope that we find ourselves sharing a stage with them soon. And if you like heavy distortion, and cross genre metal, go see them live, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
Until next time........Keep it Heavy!
