Review:
Carpathian Forest can really be summed up in one word; "Haunting". "Skjend Hans
Lik" is absolute proof of this fact. While still firmly rooted in Black Metal,
Carpathian Forest still manages to avoid nonsensical bashing and create a sound
that is catchy, yet evil and brutal at the same time. This is a rare commodity
amongst many bands who feel they have to trade musical sensibility for
hard-hitting, dark metal sound. "Skjend Hans Lik" is actually two releases in
one. Tracks 1-4 are newly released material, while Tracks 5-8 are a rerelease of
their 1996 demo, "Bloodlust and Perversion". The latter, while not as polished a
production as the first half of the CD, serves as proof that this band has stuck
to their hellish guns all these years and haven't compromised a bit. Again, a
rare and commendable quality. All together, this makes Carpathian Forest one of
the best Black Metal outfits out there today. Period.
